Anyone can use a virtual calendar on their computers, but a real-life calendar is more comfortable, because you just need to look at it, instead of clicking a series of icons and options. Outlook on the Desktop places a calendar on your desktop, but its functionality does not stop here. Any appointment you make, in MS Outlook, will reflect on your desktop calendar. While running, the calendar will stay on your desktop, but you can move it anywhere on the screen, resize it and change its opacity level.

The application works on Windows XP and any later edition and it is compatible with Outlook 2003 or higher. If .NET Framework 3.5 is installed on your computer, you don't have to meet any other requirements. You can download Outlook on the Desktop and install its components in less than a minute.

The user interface will stay pinned to your desktop, without overlapping other windows. As previously mentioned, the application displays any appointments created in MS Otulook. You can switch between a day, week and month view, by clicking different options, in the upper right corner of the calendar.

The functionality of Outlook on the Desktop is not limited to showing you a calendar, with your appointments. You can also view your contacts, access your inbox, notes and tasks, using the same interface. You just need to right click the application's system tray icon and select the appropriate options. The aforementioned items are displayed just like on Outlook interface. You may double click an existing contact, note and so on, to edit the item or read a message or click anywhere on the window, to create a new one.

It is also possible to create new Outlook on the Desktop instances. If you have multiple email accounts associated with Outlook, you may create an instance, to bring up a new interface. You may right click the same system tray icon, to find options for each instance, which are neatly organized in separate sub-menus.

Pros

The application displays your Outlook appointments, notes and other data, on your desktop. You can view emails, compose new ones, create contact entries and much more. The interface does not overlap other windows and you can move it, resize it or change its transparency level.

Cons

You can not use the application with other mail clients. While using Outlook on the Desktop, you can view and edit your important Outlook data on your desktop, without opening the main interface of Outlook.
